48 GB Minecraft server hosting, the largest plan below Dedicated, and who really needs it

Forty eight gigabytes is the largest plan on Lodehost below Dedicated and Titan: Ultimate, with 6 vCPU and the most storage we offer below those two. It is built for the biggest modded worlds and communities where a lot of players are online at once. Most servers never need it, so this page also says plainly when 24 GB does the same job for half the price.

Who needs 48 GB, and who does not

A Minecraft world runs its game logic on one main thread. More memory lets that thread keep more of the world loaded without running out; it does not make a tick finish faster. That decides who 48 GB is for.

Your serverIs 48 GB the size
A heavy modpack with many players online at once, spread out over a big worldYes
One server with several large worlds, each with players in it at the same timeYes
A heavy modpack with 10 or so playersUsually not, 24 GB is the start
A server that lags while the memory graph has room leftNo, the processor is the limit, see below
A lobby and survival networkNot on one plan: every server behind the proxy is its own server with its own plan

Lag is not always memory

If your server shows can't keep up warnings while there is plenty of memory free, 48 GB will not fix it. A faster core on the Performance line, lighter settings or fewer loaded chunks will. Find lag with spark before you buy the largest plan.

How the 48 GB is split

The panel gives the world 47,104 MB of Java heap and keeps 2,048 MB for Java itself. That share outside the heap stops growing at 2 GB, so on the largest plan almost all of the memory goes to the world: twice the heap of Premium plus another 2,048 MB.

You never set the heap yourself: the panel starts Java with the right amount for your plan, also after a switch of server type. Per gigabyte, 48 GB costs the same as 24 GB on the Standard line, €0.87 a month.

FAQ

Questions about 48 GB Minecraft hosting

How much does a 48 GB Minecraft server cost?

Ultimate is €41.95 a month on a 24 month term on the Standard line, and €83.95 on the Performance line. Monthly billing is €46.95 or €93.95.

Does a Minecraft server need 48 GB of RAM?

Only a big one: a heavy modpack with many players spread out at once, or several large worlds in use at the same time. A heavy modpack with around 10 players starts on 24 GB.

Will 48 GB fix lag on my server?

Only if the server is running out of memory. If it lags with memory to spare, the main thread is the limit, and a faster core on the Performance line helps more than more memory.

How many vCPU come with 48 GB?

6 vCPU, the most of any plan. Extra vCPU helps with work beside the main thread, such as chunk loading and saving.

How much storage does a 48 GB server get?

The Standard line gives Ultimate 300 GB SSD; the Performance line gives it 240 GB Enterprise NVMe.

Can I run a whole network on one 48 GB plan?

No. In a network every server behind the proxy is a server of its own with its own plan, joined under one address from the panel.

Can I move from 24 GB to 48 GB later?

Yes. Upgrade Plan in your dashboard takes a Premium server to Ultimate without a new install, so starting on 24 GB costs you nothing later.
